Eastside Christian School

About Us

Student Profile:
As an evangelical Christian school we serve students representing many churches of various denominations throughout the Atlanta metro area.  With grades half-day kindergarten through 8th grade, we meet the needs of the average to excelling student by providing an experience that stimulates the development of values consistent with the Christian faith in a rigorous academic setting.  Currently, Eastside Christian School does not have the staff or program to educate students with learning challenges that require exceptional assistance.

Faculty:
At the heart of our ministry to the students is our faculty.  In addition to teachers for grades half-day kindergarten through 8th grade, music, art, physical education, computer, Latin, and Spanish instructors as well as an athletic director and coaching staff for middle school sports round out our teaching professionals.  Our current faculty averages 12 years of previous teaching experience and a large percentage of our faculty hold a master’s degree or higher.  Called to the mission of teaching quality academics from a biblical perspective, there is minimal teacher turnover at ECS.

Student/Teacher Ratio:
Our average classroom houses 16 students.  In providing a low student/teacher ratio, we seek to create the best situation for our teachers to get to come to know both students and their families on a personal basis.  Providing a warm family atmosphere is a high priority at Eastside Christian School.

Curriculum:
Using texts from Christian and secular publishers, all subject matter is taught from a perspective that emphasizes a biblical world and life view.  Teaching organizational skills is an integral element of our curriculum.  Beginning in half-day kindergarten, our students learn to organize time and materials and begin to grow in independence.  We offer phonics-based reading instruction in kindergarten through 3rd grade as students learn to read, which leads to their ability to read to learn through all genres in grades 4th through 8th.  Writing skills are nicely embedded in the reading curriculum, along with seasonal or unit-related topics.  From kindergarten through 5th grade we teach a blend of traditional math, concept development, and problem solving skills.  Beginning with concrete concepts we then move to the abstract.   Middle school students are prepared for high school mathematics through national standards that emphasize reasoning skills as paramount to understanding higher mathematical concepts.  A reasonable amount of homework is required in each grade.  Physical education, music, Spanish, computer and art are taught in half-day kindergarten through 8th grade.    Beginning in the 6th grade, students can choose between several electives.

Extra-Curricular:
Our students are involved in ministry and community service projects as well as sports which include girls and boys basketball and soccer, co-ed tennis, cross-county, and golf teams as well as baseball for boys and cheerleading and volleyball for girls.  National Junior Beta Club; yearbook staff; and an annual, junior version, musical/drama production; competitions in spelling and math; and participating in Reading Counts round out student opportunities.

Uniforms:
A uniform requirement with ample choices enables the student to better focus on his or her individual achievement.

Testing:
Standardized testing is administered each spring.  Reading scores for last year beginning in half-day kindergarten through 8th grade were in a range of 80% - 90% and in math the range was 77% - 99%.  In addition, our students participate in the Duke Talent Identification Program for the 7th grade and the Duke Motivation for Academic Performance for 4th and 5th grades. Evaluations for the Presidential Academic Fitness Award are annually made for 5th grade and 8th grade students.
