Eastside Christian School has a rich history of producing fantastic musical concerts. Over the past 14 years, we have also brought amazing musical theater performances to our stage. One such production was Hairspray, Jr, in 2014. This show was such a highlight to produce and watch because of the amazing cast. Among the cast members was an eighth grader named Dayela Lima. She had been a stand-out in our productions since her early years in lower school, but this particular performance really allowed her God-given talents to shine. Playing the role of Motormouth Maybelle, Dayela captivated the audience when she sang.
When Dayela left Eastside, she joined a couple of other former Eastsiders at Pebblebrook High School of Performing Arts where she is now a senior. Just recently, Dayela performed the role of Mother Superior in a Pebblebrook production of Sister Act. Again, she was perfectly cast in a role that showcased her talents. Although Dayela charms viewers in this genre, her concentration of study at Pebblebrook is not in musical theater, but opera. She is currently auditioning for several well-known musical conservatories in New York and Boston. We are confident that God is not finished employing to His glory the talents He has given this young lady, and we are honored to have been a part of her journey.
